Overcoming The Stigma of Mental Illness
A Workshop by Erin Gallagher , Matthew Na LMSW , Kristin Kosyluk PhD. and Becky LeBlanc
About this Workshop
Research has revealed that many individuals feel more comfortable going to their pastor's office with mental health challenges than they do going to their doctor's office. This presents an incredible opportunity for pastors to educate people about mental illness -- that it is a medical condition and not a reflection of poor character or faith. These are deeply ingrained stigmas and we need all the help we can get to break those down! In this session you will hear from storyteller Becky LeBlanc about her lived experience with mental illness and her church community, researcher Kristin Kosyluk, PhD, about her research on the topic of stigma and Matthew Na, LMSW, who will share his perspective as both a minister and a mental health professional.
